Exotic Plant Workshop January 14, 2007

We had a wonderfully productive Exotic Plant Workshop, removing and identifying, at John Williams Park, Hollywood on January 14th, 2007. Thanks to a very special volunteer, Jessica Cook, we had the help of Hollywood Hills High School’s Key Club, Ecology Club and Girl Scout Troop # 501. The groups learned about non-native invasive plants, and identified native plants, as well. We removed 32 bags of exotics from the park—no common trash bags, either: these bags were taller than some of our volunteers.

The record for air potato tubers now goes to Hayley Kennedy and Nicole Bugay (with ongoing help from the crew), at over 500 tubers! And there are plenty more where those came from….

Special appreciation goes to Barbara DeWitt, Native Plant Society/North American Butterfly Association/Master Gardener, for her energy and help with the program.

If you would like to learn about native and non-native plants, hands-on, and help us get this beautiful park into top condition, please join us on February 10, 2007 at 9 AM, when we will do it again. Email me if you'd like to attend: sandykoi@bellsouth.net.
